You may not realize how much your expectations and personal perspective are colored by — and perhaps driven entirely by — the expectations & perspectives of others.
This is both *individual* (your parents, friends, co-workers, and spouse all bleed into you in myriad ways) and *collective* in the way that laws and cultural norms and money and even God are coaxing your superego and thus shaping your behavior into certain avenues.
In a composite way, these outside opinions and social structures may become personified as an “Inner Critic.”
Warning: that voice can be a hammer on your psyche.
The Inner Critic may become a voice micro-managing you or urging you toward twisted over-corrections or belittling your efforts, leading the crusade of comparison against others doing better than you and ultimately critiquing you into paralysis or enforced change that goes against your principles or upsets your balance.
For all these reasons and more, the Inner Critic must be silenced.
Acknowledge the presence of outside voices if you must, but do not let them direct you.
Your core is your compass; Truth North must come from within you.
Silence the inner critic.
Godspeed,
Dylan Orosz
